Inspired by his Portuguese teachers in primary school, José always wanted to be a poet but chose science instead. Over time, he discovered that scientists and poets are kindred spirits: both scrutinize the world for beauty and strive to translate what they find into something others can feel. From that spirit, Song Experiments was born. Drawing on his Amazonian heritage and the human stories that cross cultures, languages, and generations, José writes lyrics that explore what connects us all. Those lyrics are then carefully shaped into songs by his partners, talented students at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.
